Welcome to 2021. A new year has begun, but we are still grappling with the pandemic… and the disruption to much that we consider ‘normal’ in our lives. While doula work here in Ontario continues to be affected by the restrictions, the benefits of having a doula are still very real. In this post we’ll take another look at just how working with a doula can make a difference for you and your loved ones. So, I hope you can find some time to sit with me (maybe make yourself a nice cup of hot chocolate or some peppermint tea?) and read on to learn how working with a doula can help you have a shorter labour!
Here’s a simple fact: every labour is unique and follows its own course, and no one can know how long it will take from the first contraction to the birth of your baby. However, doula support has been shown to have a positive effect on labour and the birthing person’s experience, which results in overall shorter labours. Here’s a bit of how it works…
· Working with a doula helps to balance the hormones that contribute to labour’s progress
· Doula support helps you feel more confident and cared for
· Adding a doula to your birth team can make contractions more effective
· The knowledge and advice a doula brings can keep you in the best positions (physically, emotionally, mentally) to promote baby’s descent
Whether you are giving birth at a hospital or at home, whether you choose to have a procedure such as an epidural or labour without medical interventions… whatever your unique labour experience becomes… doula support makes a difference!
